Locals

Local unions are the lifeblood of our organization. A local union (also called a local) consists of the co-workers in your office, institution, department or community. AFSCME Council 57 has about 35,000 members in 26 local unions throughout Northern California and state civil service. Each local writes its own constitution, holds regular membership meetings and elects its own officers and stewards.

To support our locals, we have offices throughout the state to assist our members and staff with day-to-day activities, meetings and other strategic planning.
